Day 15 – last day in Quebec

Good morning from Kitchener, Ontairo!

Yesterday was our last day in Quebec, and we started this off with the buffet breakfast in the Chateau restaurant. Its a good thing we left this for the last day, the food was delicious, and there were so many good things to try. We started with tea, coffee and juice, then worked our way up. Starting with the fresh fruits, yoghurt and cold meats, into the savoury (croissants, Danish etc) then into the hot food with a chef who will prepare eggs or an omelette to order. All of it was amazing!

After getting packed up and checking out, we headed out to the boardwalk in front of the hotel, we sat in the sunshine for a while and then decided to enjoy our complementary gelato. As we explored the boardwalk, we stumbled across the archaeological site, situated underneath the boardwalk associated with the chateau. It was a truly interesting experience, going underground to see how the servants worked in the 1600’s for those who lived in the chateau. The tour included showing where certain rooms were underground where servants worked, including the ice room, scullery, kitchen, hallway etc

After this, we explored the city more. Danielle spent some time in the basilica, and then we spent the early afternoon wandering the streets. Our uber picked us up mid afternoon and we were back at the airport.

Our flight back to Toronto was uneventful, just quicker this time, with no stopover in Montreal.

After waiting an age for our bags, it was off to find our rental car. quick sign on the dotted line, and we were back out in Toronto traffic remembering how to drive on a freeway, on the wrong side of the road. Things not in our favour, it was dark as we landed and as we headed south west it started raining. Usually darkness and rain wouldn’t bother us, but when you are also trying to follow directions, keep in your lane on the wrong side of the car, and keep an eye on all the signs around you, it can be challenging.

But, after one wrong turn, and one “to the left….I mean the right’ from Danielle (only one!) we made it to the hotel about 10pm. The hotel staff were lovely and got us checked in and even pointed us in the direction of a restaurant/pub still serving food at that hour. And the options on the menu!! Mozzarella sticks for starters, a sort of Pad Thai for Danielle and a tasty burger for Chris. We are trying to work out if we can come back when we return to the area for the wedding.

Back to the hotel to bed around midnight, and so a slower start this morning.
