Today was day 1 of our road trip. After breakfast in the hotel, we headed off west towards the Canada/USA border for our 6 hour journey (plus border crossing and stops).

The first part of our journey was more of the rural roads of Ontario, Canada , instead of the main highways.  There were lots of pretty houses and farms everywhere and little communities to travel through.  We then joined the main highway and made our way towards the border.

Deciding to pay the toll fee (instead of traveling for an additional 1.5 hours) we crossed the Blue Water Bridge and made our way to the customs officer.  A number of questions here, but he finally waived us through.  Total crossing time was about half an hour, so not too bad.

Now we were on USA soil!  Here the roads are so good, and the speed limit is 75 miles per hour (120km) so travelling 200 odd kilometres up Michigan didn’t take long at all.  Though, not as much to see along the way as there was through the back roads.  Up the state and through to Traverse City where we intend to stay for the next day.
