Day 21 – Travel to Sudbury

Today we said goodbye to USA and crossed the border back into Canada.

After a slow start this morning and a leisurely breakfast while waiting for the fog to clear, we crossed the International Bridge and crossed over to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The customs lady was very nice and there weren’t too many questions, and so we got through quickly.

Its quite a different experience crossing here. At our other border crossing on this trip (and ones we have done previously) you usually go straight onto a 3-4 lane highway a full speed. Here in Sault Ste Marie, you go straight into suburban streets, as if you had just pulled out of a parking lot!

We headed for Sudbury, going north, south and east. After so long we lost the 100km highway and the roads turned into a two way carriage road (like what you travel between towns in NZ). So it was slower going that we have been used to (only 90km and not 120km). Thankfully we are back into km and not having to covert from mph.

We stopped for lunch at one of the little towns along the way, and made it to Sudbury by mid afternoon. There not much to say about our trip today, today and tomorrow are more about getting to where we need to be. Fall is here though, and we were able to experience some amazing colours along the way.

Relaxing in the hotel for the afternoon, and then across the road to the single golden arch for dinner (not McDs but another burger restaurant).

After this, we thought our day was over. Danielle jumped into the shower, only to have the fire alarm go off. A hasty dry and dress and we were outside where no fewer than 4 fire trucks, and a fire warden turned up. Thankfully it was a false alarm, otherwise that would have made the rest of our holiday very interesting.

Until tomorow,

Chris & Danielle
