Day 7 – Kennedy Space Centre

Today was our first actual day of holiday and we spent the day at the Kennedy Space Centre near Flordia.  We weren’t sure what to expect from this and tickets were only $25 each, but you could easily spend 2 days there exploring everything!

We started the day with a tour of the ‘Rocket garden” where they have several the smaller rockets on display and a very knowledgeable guide to explain about each one.  She mentioned about the ‘bus tour’ that was included as part of the entrance ticket and we decided to do this first before it got too hot.

The bus tour was amazing! Our bus driver was very entertaining and knowledgeable and liked to crack a few jokes now and then.  On our way out to the complex where the launch pads and control centres are held we saw an eagle’s nest in the trees and an Alligator relaxing in the roadside river in the sun.  The tour took us around the largest single soring building in the world and the space station control centre.

As part of the bus tour we ended up at a different complex where a simulation was shown of the first launch into space, from inside the control tower.  You really felt as if it was the 60s and you were inside the control tower helping to launch the rocket.  The windows behind us even shook as the rocket too off.  It was Dan’s favourite part of the trip.  When you moved on from this room you were in a large area showing a full-scale rocket and you would walk underneath and see all the different sections a rocket has.  There were also different emblems marking all the launches into space and an actual moon rock you could touch.

Returning to the main complex we went on another simulation of the first shuttle launch.  We then got to see the actual space shuttle and explore everything about it.  That was pretty cool

Left Kennedy Space centre early afternoon to head for Universal to collect out tickets for tomorrow.  While exploring the Universal City walk we came across Chocolate Factory Emporium.  Dinner was sorted!

Retuned to our room rather early in preparation for a full day at Universal Studios tomorrow!
