Hi all,
Have made it today to Katherine, which is 300km south of Darwin.
This morning we left Threeways (not the Crossroads, as I referred to it as yesterday) and made our way quickly north through Elliot, Newcastle waters & Daly Waters.
Hi all,
Have made it today to Katherine, which is 300km south of Darwin.
This morning we left Threeways (not the Crossroads, as I referred to it as yesterday) and made our way quickly north through Elliot, Newcastle waters & Daly Waters.
Evening all
Coming to you tonight from Threeways, which is where the highway from Queensland meets the Stuart Highway.
As promised, some photos taken of Alice Springs. Very keen to return one day soon!
Happy New Years everyone
Today we spent the day exploring Alice. Such a lovely town!
We had breakfast at a cafe in the main street mall, the cafe looked a little dodgy, but the food was amazing! After breakfast we found the Alice plaza, but on a hunt for a Telstra shop found a proper mall too.
Day 5 we explored Ayres Rock in the morning before making the final leg up to Alice Springs.
Ayres Rock was really interesting with lots of stories about the Aboriginal people, but no description about how the rock actually got there. One thing to note, it costs $25 per person to enter the National Park! but we are all glad we made the effort when we made it to the rock and got to touch it.
today we crossed the border from SA to NT.
The day began with a look around Coober Pedy and a visit to the Old Time Mine. Such an interesting place and the guys running it were really enthusiastic in what they were telling us. Some of us went noodling for Opal while Dan spent all her time in the mine reading every fact she could! The underground dugout homes and post office were something amazing.
Day 3 began, first of all waking up at 3.30 local time (being 6am NZ time) and driving around Port Augusta trying to find somewhere open for breakfast. Lesson learnt today: places in Australia don’t tend to open until after 8.30/9am. So instead we ended up at a truck stop for breakfast, which wasn’t so bad, and useful because we needed to fill up anyway.
Tokerau Beach to Kerikeri to Auckland
Day one of our Australian road trip started not with a car, but with a Q300 flight to Auckland. Because we fly out so early in the morning we thought it a good idea to stay in Auckland for the night. Check out our view from the hotel room below!
The day started with a quick trip down to Kerikeri from Tokerau and a very sad trip to the cattery (on our part anyway) before we caught the plane (And Danielle actually got to fly, not be taxi!) to Auckland. Caught up with our friend Brie for dinner and now it’s an early night before a 5am start.
Should be a good trip, watch this space…
